Description:

Multiple Pathways of Recovery and Building Equity explores the development of disparities related to substance use disorders and mental health in the United States and their impacts on marginalized communities. Utilizing a social justice framework, learn about building health equity and community engagement, and about approaches and strategies grounded in cultural humility and cultural intelligence.

Objectives:

  • Define health disparities and health equity.
  • Understand and describe the concepts of cultural humility and cultural intelligence.

Dr. Haner Hernandez's portrait

Dr. Haner Hernández

Ph.D., CPS, CADC-II, LADC-I

Dr. Hernández is bilingual and has worked for more than 33 years in the health and human service field developing, implementing, and evaluating culturally and linguistically intelligent youth and adult health prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery support programs. He has years of experience in delivering substance use counseling and clinical supervision, and provides technical assistance and support to organizations that provide substance use prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery supports. Dr. Hernández is a senior consultant to several state and SAMHSA contracts with a focus on disparities, building health equity, substance use treatment, and recovery supports.

These trainings were funded in whole or in part by funds from the SAMHSA Community Mental Health Block Grant, SAMHSA Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant and state funds sub-granted from the Nebraska Department of Health and Services, Division of Behavioral Health.
