PART 1: “Understanding Psychosis” reviews the core characteristics and symptoms of psychosis, etiology, prognosis, and current treatment approaches, including an overview of the implementation of Coordinated Specialty Care programs across the United States.
Objectives:
- Describe the symptoms, course, prognosis, and etiological model of psychosis.
- Describe the core elements of coordinated specialty care (CSC) treatment model for early psychosis.
- Explain differences between PIER, NAVIGATE, and ONTrackNY models of early psychosis treatment.

PART 2: “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp) – An Introduction” reviews how the cognitive model of CBT can be applied to psychosis, discusses a variety of cognitive and behavioral techniques that can be used as part of CBTp, and reviews some common challenges that arise when conducting CBTp with individuals experiencing psychosis. Case examples are provided.

- Explain how the cognitive model is applied to psychosis in CBTp.
- Demonstrate effective use of cognitive and behavioral techniques for addressing distressing voices & unusual thoughts in psychosis.

About the Speaker
Dr. Laura Tully
Dr. Tully is a licensed clinical psychologist and the Director of Clinical Training at the UC Davis Early Psychosis Program (SacEDAPT and EDAPT clinics). Dr. Tully provides instruction in evidence-based treatment and assessment approaches for youth experiencing psychosis, with an emphasis on CBT for psychosis in the context of the Coordinated Specialty Care model.
These trainings were funded in whole or in part by funds from the SAMHSA Community Mental Health Block Grant, SAMHSA Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant and state funds sub-granted from the Nebraska Department of Health and Services, Division of Behavioral Health.
