Description:
Many professionals are involved in working with justice-involved populations and treatment courts, including but not limited to, judges, attorneys, probation and parole, child welfare professionals, and treatment providers. Clear and transparent communication among professionals in the system improves positive outcomes and promotes lasting change. This presentation highlights how to communicate and integrate treatment and case information as a team and how to function as a team. Among the questions to be answered include: What case information should be shared? Who needs what information? How can you share information appropriately? What does change look like? What are the words to use to describe progress and change?
Objectives:
- Identify principles of individualized treatment planning and how to engage clients in accountable change.
- Describe ASAM Criteria multidimensional assessment that guides what treatment and case management data is needed to develop effective treatment and case management plans.
- Demonstrate how to communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team to track treatment and court plan progress.

About the Speaker
Dr. David Mee-Lee
David Mee-Lee, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist and is certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM). Based in Davis, CA, he trains and consults both nationally and internationally. Dr. Mee-Lee has been Chief Editor of the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s (ASAM) Criteria for all previous and current editions. He is President of DML Training and Consulting and is a co-founder of the Institute for Wellness Education, Teaneck, NJ. Dr. Mee-Lee has over 40 years’ experience in person-centered treatment and program development for people with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.
